A Level Live Lessons FAQs

What exam board are you teaching?

Cambridge (CAIE). The code is 9618. This is the only A Level available to children outside school and college.

How long will the course be?

Two years.

Is this a full A Level?

Yes, the first year is AS level, the second year is A2. At the end of the first year, students take the AS exams (there are two), at the end of the second year they take two more exams for the full A2.

Is this online?

Yes, lessons will be on Zoom.

When will the lessons be?

Tuesdays 1pm until 3.30pm with a short break in between. Although the lessons are 2.5 hours long, learning at home time will be at least 4 hours a week.

How much will it cost?

£800 for first year (after the AS Exam, lessons will continue after into the summer to make a start with the A2 course).

£750 for the second year. Lessons will cease the week before the exam.

Total costs: £1550

The cost of the exams is not included. You are responsible for booking and paying for exams.

What format will the course take?

Most of the content will be delivered in the live lessons, and on Coding Rooms (for programming).

Students will also be expected to complete programming tasks, some on their own at home outside the lessons, and some in pairs during the lessons.

The aim is to get a variety of learning activities into the course and the lessons.

What programming language will you use?

Python

What happens if I miss a class?

Classes will be recorded on Zoom and kept for 90 days in the event of a student missing a lesson.

What is the minimum grade needed for the course?

A minimum grade B or 6 is needed in GCSE or IGCSE Computer Science. If you don’t have the GCSE but have equivalent experience or qualifications, please contact us to discuss.

Is there a coursebook I need to buy?

Yes, click here for the link.

My child can’t make the lesson day/time, can they watch the recording and study that way?

Because of the way the lessons are structured, watching the recordings won’t be possible. I do intend on releasing a pre-recorded version of the A Level in the future so that students can study at their own pace.
