A full academic year of Year 7 Computing and ICT, designed for children learning at home. The course is built from resources created for the UK government for use in schools, so your child learns the same as their peers in school.
There are 36 lessons plus a bonus lesson. Do one a week in term time and you’ll finish in a school year, or go faster or slower as suits your child.
What your child will learn
Six units, each lasting about half a term:
- Clear messaging in digital media – how colour, font, layout and images get a message across, applied to posters and slides.
- Networks: from semaphores to the internet – how communication evolved, and how data travels in packets using IP addresses and DNS.
- Programming essentials (Scratch part 1) – sequence, selection and loops in block-based code.
- Modelling data with spreadsheets – formulas, functions and simple charts.
- Programming (Scratch part 2) – broadcasts, multiple sprites and a small project.
- Using media to support a cause – planning a short blog or campaign with credible, cited sources.
Units work best in order, though any order is fine except that Scratch part 1 comes before part 2.
How the course works
- Video lessons with captions; the video guides your child through each worksheet
- A quiz after lessons and an assessment at the end of every unit
- No printer needed
- Allow about an hour per lesson, with the focus on practical work rather than watching
- Progress is tracked, with a certificate of completion at the end
- All software is free, or has a free alternative (Scratch, Google Slides and Sheets, and so on)
- Email support Monday–Friday in term time, with replies within 48 hours
- Two years’ access from the date of purchase
